| Welcome to VALE COTTAGES, Stoke Trister, Near Wincanton, Somerset. These are idyllically situated on a 70 acre estate bordering Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire which was in the Domesday Book. They are at the end of a No Through Road in the grounds of a beautiful Grade II listed Manor House in the Blackmore Vale, and have been newly renovated. The area is steeped in history with many historic sites, country houses and museums open to the public being within easy drive - King Alfred's Tower, Stourhead, Stonehenge, Longleat, Montacute, Wilton House, Salisbury Cathedral, Sherborne Abbey, Cheddar Gorge, Yeovilton Air Museum, Haynes Motor Museum, Bovington Tank Museum, Monkey World, Glastonbury and many others.
It is hidden in a valley only just over a mile from the main A303 trunk road to the South West. 2 hours from London and an hour to the South Coast - Studland Bay, Durdle Dor. The magic of this place is the beautiful view out across the valley from the courtyard the cottages are in, and the fact that you can put your boots on and start walking on public footpaths from the front door. The owners of The Manor House who have their own complementary therapy business see www.valehealing.co.uk and are very happy to advise on local walking, history and gardens to visit. Also on offer are a games room with table tennis and use of the hard tennis court in the grounds (private lessons from the owner, who is a professional coach, available by arrangement). Lots of board games in the Manor are available on request. The owners also run pilates plus tennis and nordic walking weekends www.pilatestennis.co.uk Visitors to the cottages are encouraged to buy local produce from farm shops. www.BigBarn.co.uk is a website with lots of information and lists local farm shops. www.somersetfarmersmarkets.co.uk For box deliveries to order on line. They will deliver the box on a Thusday to the Manor utility room which guests can then pick up on their arrival on the Friday. Payment is at the moment by cheque when the goods are delivered but there will shortly be credit card facility on line to pay on ordering.
